How can I apply to volunteer?
To volunteer with us, please fill out the application form in the section 'Volunteering opportunities' and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. When you have booked your flights and can confirm when you will be coming, we will arrange a skype chat to discuss more details and answer any questions you might have.
Is volunteering free?
Yes. Volunteering with us is completely free, and you will not be asked to pay a single peso. However, you will be expected to pay for any materials you decide to use in your classes (e.g. photocopies).
Will Colombia Sin Fronteras provide me with accommodation or food?
As a charity, all the money we receive goes towards the children, and therefore we are not able to provide volunteers with accommodation or food. We recommend volunteers to initially stay in a hostel in Santa Marta, and then once they have arrived decide if they would like to look for their own apartment or do a homestay.
What will I be doing as a volunteer?
Unfortunately it is not possible to say what you will be doing exactly until you arrive. The role you play in CSF will depend on:
- your length of stay
- your abilities and experience
- how many volunteers we have
How expensive is life in Santa Marta?
Life in Colombia is somewhat cheaper than life in Europe or the US, for example. It is impossible to say how much money you should bring, as it really depends on your lifestyle. You can make life as cheap (or as expensive) as you like.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Yes. You are not required to speak fluent Spanish, however you must have at least an intermediate level so that you can communicate with the children and hold a class.
